Rescuers had hoped to find the double Olympic gold medallist on the 6,096-metre (20,000-foot) Laila Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains.

German biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier, 31, died in a climbing accident on Laila Peak in Pakistan after being struck by falling rocks; her climbing partner survived and sought help. Dahlmeier’s family has expressed that no one should risk their life to recover her body, respecting her final wishes amidst challenging weather conditions hindering rescue efforts.
