Former footballer charged with assaulting Sugababe

A former professional footballer, Taiwo Leo Atieno, has been charged with assaulting Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan and exercising control over her daily activities, including when she could shower and wear lipstick, over a 13-year period.

Atieno, 39, who previously played for Luton Town and the Kenya national team, appeared in court via video-link dressed in a suit and tie.

He has been granted conditional bail and is expected to enter pleas in August.
