The Ontario Northland passenger train, known as the Northlander, will relaunch its service between Toronto and Timmins in 2026 after being discontinued in 2012. The new service will feature fully-accessible trains with modern amenities, 16 stops, and aims to transport 40,000 to 60,000 riders annually, garnering strong support from northern Ontario communities, including Indigenous groups. The relaunch is expected to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and improve the quality of life in the region, as residents anticipate its impact on local growth and access to essential services.
