NZ Police Commissioner Richard Chambers described a recent directive regarding the investigation of retail crime as “confusing and unhelpful.” He requested that all district commanders be reminded to pursue offenders regardless of the specified value thresholds outlined in a memo from the police’s File Management Centre (FMC), which set national thresholds for theft and fraud. These thresholds include general theft at $200, petrol drive-off at $150, shoplifting at $500, and various fraud types ranging from $500 to $1000, effective from March 26.
