An Ontario ironworker was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting his wife in 2020, after a trial found him guilty of ignoring her objections to a threesome while she was highly intoxicated. Justice Joseph De Filippis noted the man’s high moral blameworthiness, stating that previous discussions about a threesome did not imply consent, especially given the victim’s distress upon awakening to the assault. The woman reported the incident three years after their separation, highlighting the severe emotional trauma it caused her, including anxiety and depression.
