CBC/Radio-Canada announced it will discontinue performance pay bonuses for executives and over 1,000 non-unionized employees, opting instead to adjust salaries to maintain overall compensation at the median market level. This decision follows criticism for awarding millions in bonuses while laying off staff, with last year’s payouts totaling $18.4 million, including $3.3 million to executives. A compensation review noted that while performance pay is a common practice, eliminating it risks making CBC/Radio-Canada less competitive in hiring talent, highlighting the need for alternative performance incentives.
