Thousands are expected to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the Allies’ acceptance of Germany’s surrender on May 8, 1945, with street parties and community gatherings across the UK. The national festivities will kick off with a military procession from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace, featuring a recital of Winston Churchill’s VE Day speech and a Red Arrows flypast, attended by the King, Queen, and Prime Minister. A two-minute silence will be observed at noon on the official VE Day, alongside various local events honoring the sacrifices made during World War II.
