Industry figures are predicting major changes in airport technology within the next two to three years, with the International Civil Aviation Organisation planning to introduce a ‘digital travel credential’ allowing passengers to upload their passport to their phones and use facial recognition for boarding. Passengers would be able to download a ‘journey pass’ instead of traditional boarding passes, streamlining the check-in process and reducing the need for physical documents. Privacy concerns will be addressed by deleting passenger data within 15 seconds of each point of contact, ensuring security and efficiency in the new system.
