Funeral industry says laws haven’t kept up with technology

People in the funeral industry are calling for updates to the outdated Burial and Cremation Act 1964 due to technological advancements and unclear rules regarding unclaimed ashes. Funeral homes struggle with families not collecting ashes post-funeral, highlighting the need for legal directives. The Ministry of Health has initiated a review of the act and will begin reassessing policy work, including a review of the Cremation Regulations 1973 this year.
