Applying for a South African ID? Follow these quick steps from Home Affairs

South African citizens or permanent residents over 16 years old can apply for an ID at any DHA office or South African mission. First-time applicants need to submit specific documents, while errors in the ID can be corrected for free by providing the necessary forms and proof to the DHA. Your fingerprints will be matched or entered into the National Population Register for processing and collection at the designated office after issuance.
