Kingston Police Utilize Drones for Distracted Driving Enforcement
Kingston Police recently employed drones to monitor distracted driving during a blitz on May 7, 2025, resulting in 20 tickets issued for cellphone use while driving. The Canadian Constitution Foundation criticized this method as unconstitutional, arguing it violates individuals’ privacy rights under Section 8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Police Chief Scott Fraser defended the use of drones, comparing it to traditional surveillance methods and asserting that it enhances traffic safety without infringing on personal rights.
