Trump pushes EU to cut tariffs or face extra duties

Donald Trump’s trade negotiators are urging the EU to make unilateral tariff reductions on US goods, stating that without concessions, talks to avoid additional 20% duties will not progress. US trade representative Jamieson Greer plans to inform EU counterpart Maroš Šefčovič that the EU’s recent proposals are insufficient, particularly due to the lack of a commitment to lower duties independently. As both sides prepare for a key meeting in Paris, the US remains focused on addressing its €192bn trade deficit, while the EU seeks a balanced deal to avoid further tariffs.
