Recent research has shown that Gen X and millennial Americans are at a higher risk of developing 17 cancers compared to older generations, including a 15% increase in colon cancer diagnoses in adults aged 18 to 44 over the last 20 years. University of Michigan physicians recommend nine ways to reduce early-onset cancer risk, such as stopping smoking, limiting alcohol use, eating a healthy diet, getting sufficient sleep, exercising regularly, and discussing family history with a doctor. Smoking is responsible for 20% of US cancer cases, with lung cancer deaths expected to rise, while alcohol use, poor diet, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise can also contribute to cancer risk.
