On the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, coinciding with the biannual UNESCO report, a 38% increase in journalist killings was reported, with Gaza experiencing the highest number of journalist deaths in any recent conflict. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for urgent government action to protect journalists and prosecute perpetrators, highlighting the dangers faced by journalists worldwide, particularly those reporting from Gaza, where over 130 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli forces in the past year.
