Vegetation fire reported near Parikino, Whanganui

Fourteen firefighting crews and four helicopters are actively battling a large vegetation fire in a forestry block near Parikino, Whanganui, which has spread across several gullies and pine trees, estimated to be 2-3 km wide. The air assault is supported by nine fire trucks and a command unit on the ground. Fire crews from Whanganui, Manawatū, and Marton are on-site, while nearby residents are prepared to evacuate if necessary. The situation is being closely monitored as efforts continue to contain the blaze.
