Serious Fraud Office reviews investigation into Paul Eagle’s role as Chatham Islands CEO

The Serious Fraud Office is reviewing findings from an investigation into Paul Eagle regarding his tenure as chief executive of the Chatham Islands Council. The Auditor General identified that Eagle misled an official inquiry about his excessive spending by fabricating financial records. Following this, Eagle resigned from his position, expressing regret for his actions and admitting to panicking during questioning. The Auditor General has not yet determined the legality of Eagle’s conduct.
