Tenant allegedly running brothel from Auckland apartment unable to be evicted, Tenancy Tribunal rules

A landlord’s attempt to evict a tenant for alleged brothel activities was denied by the Tenancy Tribunal, which cited the Prostitution Reform Act 2003 permitting small brothels in residential homes. The landlord, Kainan Shi of GK Group Property, presented CCTV footage and online ads as evidence, including one featuring an Asian woman offering sex from the apartment. However, the tenant, whose identity was suppressed, denied any sex work was occurring from his unit, leading to the tribunal’s decision against the eviction.
