A violent incident involving over 30 senior boarders at Wesley College has led education officials to recommend the urgent closure of the hostels at New Zealand’s oldest school. The Ministry of Education ordered this closure due to serious safety concerns following a report from the Education Review Office (ERO). The ERO highlighted ongoing issues, including a significant bullying incident reported during a July 2025 monitoring visit. Consequently, the ministry plans to suspend the hostel’s license.
