Rotorua motels for emergency housing lack proper consent

Two motels in Rotorua, Victoria Lodge and Gibson Court Motel, are operating as emergency housing for the Ministry of Social Development without proper resource consent, according to the Rotorua Lakes Council. The council plans to address this compliance issue, which the Ministry warns could hinder its ability to provide housing for those in need. The motels are the last remaining in the city under government contract for emergency housing after other arrangements ended in December. The compliance concerns were raised following a complaint regarding their adherence to the District Plan.
