British health insurer Bupa has been fined A$35mn (US$23mn) in Australia for “unconscionable conduct” in denying legitimate patient claims between May 2018 and August 2023. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission initiated legal action, leading to Bupa admitting its wrongdoing and compensating customers, while also expanding its operations in the region.
