Police are investigating incidents of vandalism targeting ambulances in South Auckland, specifically at Hato Hone St John bases in Manukau and Ōtāhuhu. Six ambulances have had their tyres slashed, prompting authorities to seek information from the public. The incidents occurred on February 28 and April 9, when offenders illegally accessed the ambulance stations and damaged the vehicles. Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward confirmed that these acts of wilful damage are being taken seriously, as they jeopardize emergency services’ ability to respond to urgent calls.

Why It Matters

Ambulance services are critical components of public safety and emergency response systems. Vandalism against ambulances not only endangers the lives of patients needing urgent care but also strains resources and response times for all emergency services. Historical data indicates that targeted attacks on emergency vehicles can lead to increased operational costs and delays in medical assistance. Protecting these services is essential for maintaining community safety and ensuring that emergency responders can operate effectively.
