New 30,000-seat concert venue plan for Western Springs Bowl

New plans for upgrading Western Springs to host concerts of up to 30,000 attendees, while preserving the Ponsonby Rugby Club, will be presented to Auckland councillors for a final decision this month. The Auckland Council has proposed a semi-permanent staging solution for festivals and concerts, along with an upgraded configuration for smaller events accommodating around 5,000 fans. This development follows the abandonment of a previous proposal for an “Auckland Arena” at the site by investors last July.
