The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed that a Second World War bomb, which forced thousands to evacuate in Plymouth, has been detonated at sea.

A spokesperson for the MoD stated that the bomb was “detonated successfully at 9.51pm” on Friday 23 February.

The 500kg explosive device was found in a back garden on Tuesday, leading to one of the largest peacetime evacuation operations in the UK.

Approximately 30 bomb disposal specialists from the armed forces worked tirelessly to assess the condition of the bomb since its discovery in St Michael Avenue in the Keyham area of Plymouth.

The recent trade deal between the US and UK, criticized as lacking legal structure and substance, primarily serves to mitigate tariffs imposed by Trump, rather than fostering genuine economic collaboration. The UK, which is not heavily impacted by these tariffs, risks compromising the integrity of the global trading system by prioritizing a quick agreement over a robust multilateral approach, potentially undermining the "most favored nation" principle. This situation weakens the UK's position as a proponent...
