An Auckland school, Wesley College, is challenging a Ministry of Education order to close its boarding hostels due to serious student safety concerns. The Ministry suspended the school’s licence to house boarders, effective this Friday, following ongoing issues related to hostel culture. Although the trust board had previously acknowledged these concerns and planned to shut the dorms at term’s end, they are now seeking legal recourse to keep them open until then. The appeal has been filed in the Auckland District Court.
