A low-pressure system from the Tasman Sea is forecasted to bring stormy weather to New Zealand, including heavy rain and thunderstorms. A strong wind watch has been issued for Northland, with predicted gusts of up to 100km/h from 3pm to 10pm, along with the risk of squally thunderstorms in Northland and Auckland. MetService forecaster Surprise Mhlongo indicated that the day will be wet for the western and northern regions of the North Island, with scattered showers and periods of rain expected.
