A Christchurch teenager, Kymani Hiley-Hetaraka, died after falling and hitting her head during a school ice skating trip at Alpine Ice last August. Following her tragic death, safety rules at ice rinks across New Zealand were revised; however, a coroner has determined that no inquest or further investigation is necessary. Kymani’s family is frustrated by this decision, feeling that there has been no justice or accountability for her death. They faced the heart-wrenching decision of turning off her life support just two days later.
