Israeli settlers were responsible for nearly 89% of fires targeting Palestinian homes, buildings, and vehicles in the West Bank from January 2023 to July 10, 2026. The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission reported that out of 900 documented incidents, 799 were caused by settlers and 101 by the Israeli army. The number of recorded fires has increased annually, from 217 in 2023 to 307 in 2025, with 112 fires recorded in the first half of 2026. The Nablus and Ramallah governorates were particularly affected, accounting for over 61% of incidents. The report also indicated that these fires have led to the displacement of 121 Palestinian communities, forcing more than 6,200 individuals, including over 3,000 children, from their homes. The commission cited a “government environment of enablement” for the continued violence and impunity.

Why It Matters

These incidents highlight ongoing tensions and violence in the occupied West Bank, where illegal settlement expansion and Israeli military operations have contributed to the displacement of Palestinian communities. The increased frequency of arson attacks correlates with a broader trend of settler violence against Palestinians, often occurring in a context where there is little accountability for such actions. The situation raises concerns about human rights violations and the impact on Palestinian livelihoods, access to land, and security in the region. The documented displacement of thousands underlines the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by ongoing conflict and settlement policies.
