Board of Peace sets $400 million limit for Gaza administration finances

The Board of Peace (BoP) announced plans for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to review financial commitments totaling up to $400 million as part of the implementation of President Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Peace Plan. The committee will gradually address these commitments over three years while ensuring the continuity of public services and conducting a comprehensive audit of Gaza’s financial affairs. In conjunction with this, Trump announced an agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups, with a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces. The plan, supported by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye, includes the establishment of an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force to oversee security in Gaza. U.S. officials expressed confidence that Israel would adhere to the terms of the agreement, which aims to facilitate a rebuilding process for Gaza.

Why It Matters

The announcement is significant as it represents a structured approach to address longstanding financial and governance issues in Gaza, which has faced recurrent conflicts and humanitarian crises. The roadmap aligns with previous efforts by international actors to stabilize the region, highlighting the ongoing complexities of Israeli-Palestinian relations. Historical context shows that previous peace initiatives have struggled with implementation, often hindered by mistrust between involved parties. The involvement of key regional players like Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye underscores the geopolitical dynamics at play, illustrating the need for multi-faceted cooperation in achieving lasting peace in Gaza.
