Israel expands yellow zone, displacing more residents from Gaza

Israel is expanding its control over the Gaza Strip by moving yellow concrete barriers deeper into the territory. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel now controls 70 percent of Gaza, as reported by Yedioth Ahronoth. The barriers, which are being relocated further west, are restricting civilian movement and leading to increased displacement among the population. This recent expansion, which occurred near Salah al-Din Road east of Gaza City, aims to increase pressure on Hamas and provide the Israeli military with enhanced security zones for its positions and nearby settlements. The operation began weeks ago and is expected to continue, with newly seized areas designated as “yellow zones.” Local residents have reported that the relocation of barriers has forced families to evacuate due to heightened dangers in the vicinity.

Why It Matters

The situation in Gaza has been marked by ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which governs the territory. The use of yellow barriers is part of Israel’s military strategy to secure its borders and manage security threats. Historically, the Gaza Strip has been a focal point of Israeli-Palestinian tensions, and actions such as these contribute to ongoing humanitarian crises and displacement. The expansion of control within Gaza is likely to exacerbate the already volatile situation, impacting civilians who are caught in the conflict.
