Morocco has signed an agreement to join the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, committing to deploy senior military officers to the ISF joint command. The agreement was finalized during a meeting in Rabat between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Defence Minister Abdellatif Loudiyi, and Nikolay Mladenov, the lead envoy for Gaza from the Board of Peace. This initiative follows directives from King Mohammed VI and establishes a legal framework for Morocco’s involvement in the multinational force. The agreement emphasizes Morocco’s dedication to promoting peace, cooperation, and international solidarity amid ongoing humanitarian challenges. Since the escalation of conflict in October 2023, Israel’s military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 73,000 deaths and more than 173,000 injuries.
Why It Matters
Morocco’s participation in the ISF is significant as it highlights the country’s role in international peacekeeping efforts in a region marked by prolonged conflict. The ongoing crisis in Gaza has led to severe humanitarian impacts, with high casualty rates and extensive injuries since the escalation of violence. The agreement aligns with a broader international strategy aimed at stabilizing Gaza, which includes a 20-point plan announced by former US President Donald Trump in 2025, focusing on disarmament and the establishment of a technocratic government. Morocco’s involvement in the ISF underscores its commitment to regional stability and cooperation in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
