Israeli army conducts air and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army conducted airstrikes and artillery shelling in southern Lebanon on Sunday, violating a ceasefire agreement that was recently established. Israeli warplanes targeted the Al-Hariq neighborhood located between the towns of Kfartebnit and Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Additionally, artillery fire was directed at the outskirts of Qantara, and a drone dropped a stun grenade in the town of Mansouri. An explosion was also reported in Tayri, part of the Bint Jbeil district. These military actions occurred despite a framework agreement signed on June 26, aimed at resolving the conflict and facilitating the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory. Since the onset of military operations on March 2, 2026, Lebanese authorities report that at least 4,303 individuals have been killed and over 12,202 injured, with more than one million people displaced.

Why It Matters

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon has deep historical roots, with tensions exacerbated by territorial disputes and military confrontations. The recent ceasefire agreement, mediated by the United States, was intended to reduce hostilities and promote stability in the region. The substantial casualties and displacement figures underscore the humanitarian crisis resulting from these military operations and highlight the urgent need for a lasting peace solution. The escalation of violence raises concerns regarding regional security and the potential for further conflict, impacting not only Lebanon and Israel but also broader geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
