Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics announced that the total number of pilgrims for the 1447 AH Hajj season reached 1,707,301. Among these, 1,546,655 pilgrims arrived from abroad, while 160,646 were citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia. The data revealed that there were 893,396 male pilgrims and 813,905 female pilgrims. Additionally, the majority of pilgrims, totaling 1,485,729, arrived by air, while 54,429 entered through land routes and 6,497 by sea. The Hajj pilgrimage is a significant event for Muslims worldwide, drawing millions annually to the holy city of Mecca.

Why It Matters

The Hajj pilgrimage is a fundamental pillar of Islam, and its significance extends beyond spiritual fulfillment to include economic and logistical implications for Saudi Arabia. The influx of over 1.7 million pilgrims highlights the country’s role as a central hub for Islamic worship. Historically, the Hajj has experienced fluctuations in attendance due to various factors, including health crises and geopolitical issues. The Saudi government invests heavily in infrastructure and security to accommodate millions of pilgrims each year, demonstrating its commitment to facilitating this essential religious observance.
