Pakistan accuses Israel of dangerous developments amid US-Iran talks

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has accused Israel of undermining Islamabad’s mediation efforts for ceasefire talks between the US and Iran. Dar stated that Israel’s recent attack on Iran occurred when both nations were poised to engage in discussions facilitated by Pakistan. He noted that prior to the attack, there was optimism regarding negotiations, with both sides agreeing to meet in Islamabad. Pakistan had already relayed the US’s 15-point conditions to Iran and Iran’s 10-point proposal, which rejected a temporary ceasefire in favor of a permanent resolution. Amid rising tensions, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, condemning the Iranian attack on Saudi oil facilities and reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Riyadh while emphasizing ongoing collaborative peace efforts in the region.

Why It Matters

This situation highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East, where multiple nations are vying for influence. Pakistan’s role as a mediator reflects its strategic position in regional diplomacy, especially given its historical ties with both Iran and Saudi Arabia. The escalation of hostilities, particularly Israel’s action against Iran and Iran’s military responses, can destabilize the region further and complicate diplomatic efforts. The ongoing conflict also has implications for global oil markets and international relations, as countries like the US, Turkey, and Egypt join Pakistan’s initiatives to foster peace.
