Lebanon and Syria to Transfer 300 Prisoners to Damascus

Lebanon and Syria have reached an agreement to transfer over 300 Syrian prisoners from Lebanese prisons to Damascus, as announced by Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri and Syrian Justice Minister Mazhar Al-Wais in Beirut. This deal aims to address the complex issue of Syrian detainees in Lebanon and reflects a commitment to improving bilateral relations. Al-Wais noted that further plans are in place for detainees not covered by this agreement. Official estimates indicate that around 2,500 Syrians occupy Lebanese prisons, representing a significant portion of the total prison population.
