Iraq assumes control of Ain al-Asad Airbase after coalition withdrawal

The Iraqi military has officially taken control of the Ain al-Asad Airbase in western Anbar province following the withdrawal of US-led coalition forces, as stated by the Defense Ministry. Chief of General Staff Gen. Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah oversaw the transition and the allocation of responsibilities among Iraqi units. The coalition was formed in 2014 to combat the Daesh terror group after its territorial gains in Iraq. Other coalition facilities included bases in Baghdad, Erbil, and training camps.
