The United States’ imperial ambitions are highlighted by President Trump’s January 9 meeting with oil executives to discuss Venezuelan oil, showcasing a blatant disregard for Venezuelan sovereignty. Trump proposed that American companies, like ExxonMobil and Chevron, modernize Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, framing it as beneficial for U.S. interests. Executives expressed enthusiasm for exploiting Venezuela’s oil reserves, despite acknowledging the logistical challenges involved. The discussion reflects the ongoing theme of economic hegemony in U.S. foreign policy.
