Syrian President Cautions Israel on 1974 Ceasefire Agreement

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa warned at the Doha Forum 2025 that any Israeli attempts to alter the 1974 Disengagement Agreement or create a buffer zone would create instability in the region. He accused Israel of trying to deflect attention from its actions in Gaza and emphasized that Syria’s commitment is to regional stability. Sharaa questioned the feasibility of a demilitarized zone without Syrian forces and insisted that any agreement must protect Syria’s interests, given its exposure to Israeli aggression.
