Palestinian flag displayed in German parliament during debate

A pro-Palestinian activist disrupted a foreign policy debate in the German parliament by unfurling a Palestinian flag and protesting against Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul’s comments on Gaza, insisting there is no ceasefire due to ongoing Israeli violations. This incident occurred amid Germany’s significant arms sales to Israel, which totaled over €492 million since October 2023. Despite Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s temporary restrictions on arms exports, they were recently lifted. The German government maintains that a ceasefire has been stable since October 10, 2023, and emphasizes efforts for peace and humanitarian aid in Gaza.
