The Israeli Knesset approved a draft law proposing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, with 39 votes in favor and 16 against, following a proposal by Knesset member Limor Son Har Melech. The law allows for a death sentence for individuals who kill Israelis out of racial or national hostility and changes the legal process to permit military courts to impose the death penalty with a simple majority. Far-right Minister Itamar Ben Gvir celebrated the approval by distributing sweets. Once a death sentence is given, it cannot be commuted or reduced.
