The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) condemned the arrest of Emirati activist Jassem Rashid Al-Shamsi by Syrian security forces on November 6, 2025, carried out without a warrant and resulting in his enforced disappearance. Al-Shamsi, previously sentenced to life in the UAE for advocating political reform, has supported the Syrian people’s quest for dignity since the 2011 revolution. The AOHR UK criticized the UAE’s role in regional repression and demanded immediate disclosure of Al-Shamsi’s fate and guarantees of his safety. They urged Syrian authorities to reject any involvement in targeting Arab dissidents, warning of repercussions for Syria’s human rights record.
