The US Treasury Department sanctioned individuals on Thursday for allegedly facilitating the transfer of tens of millions of dollars from Iran to Hezbollah through Lebanon’s cash-based financial sector. The sanctions aim to support the disarmament of Hezbollah, which has reportedly received over $1 billion from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Quds Force since January. The Treasury accused Hezbollah of laundering illicit funds and threatening Lebanon’s financial integrity. All property and interests of the sanctioned individuals in the US are now blocked.
