The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has initiated the disarmament process, marking a significant end to over 40 years of armed conflict with Turkey, following a call from its leader Abdullah Ocalan for a shift to democratic politics. The ceremony took place near Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq, with oversight from Turkish and Kurdish representatives, and aims for full disarmament by September.
