Iranian authorities dismissed a state television official and his executive assistant, filing lawsuits against eight other employees for insulting Sunnis and Saudi Arabia, following backlash over a controversial family-oriented religious program. Peiman Jbeili, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), emphasized the need for national unity and criticized the program for airing offensive content, including an interview with a cartoon character resembling Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. This incident raised tensions amid improving Saudi-Iranian relations following the resumption of diplomatic ties in September 2023.
