As of July 17, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reported in Parliament that over 6.17 lakh waqf properties have been validated and approved. During the verification process, 91,253 properties were rejected, while an additional 91,623 properties are currently pending for uploading to the UMEED Central Portal-2025. This portal is designed to manage the lifecycle of waqf properties, streamlining their administration and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The data shared highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of these properties, which are designated for charitable and religious purposes within the Muslim community.

Why It Matters

The management of waqf properties is crucial for the socio-economic development of the Muslim community in India, as these properties often fund educational and healthcare initiatives. The validation and approval of over 6.17 lakh waqf properties represents significant progress in addressing historical issues related to property mismanagement and disputes. The UMEED Central Portal-2025 aims to provide a centralized system for monitoring and managing these properties, which can lead to better transparency and utilization of resources. This initiative aligns with broader government efforts to digitize records and improve property management across various sectors.
