IRCTC has taken significant measures to combat ticket booking fraud, deactivating over three crore suspicious user IDs and verifying an additional six crore. This initiative aims to enhance the integrity of the ticketing system for rail passengers in India. Concurrently, the Indian Railways has implemented an AI-powered kitchen monitoring system that employs 2,394 cameras to oversee 800 kitchens. This system is designed to identify nine different types of hygiene issues, ensuring food quality and safety for millions of railway passengers. The combination of these efforts reflects IRCTC’s commitment to improving service reliability and maintaining high standards in food safety.

Why It Matters

IRCTC’s actions against ticket booking fraud are pivotal given the scale of fraudulent activities reported in the Indian railways sector, which has led to substantial financial losses for the system. The verification of user IDs is part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and user trust in digital ticketing. The introduction of AI technology in monitoring kitchen hygiene also aligns with global trends in using advanced technology to ensure food safety, especially in high-volume operations like those of Indian Railways, which serves over 23 million passengers daily. Ensuring food quality and safety is crucial not only for passenger health but also for maintaining the reputation of the rail service.
