NEW DELHI: Following a fatal bus fire that killed 20 people, the NHRC has ordered state chief secretaries to recall sleeper buses violating safety regulations and ensure accountability for officials involved in their certification. Key safety violations identified include the absence of fire detection systems and inadequate emergency exits. The NHRC emphasized that systemic lapses in enforcement contributed to the tragedy, urging immediate corrective action and a report within two weeks. The Central Institute of Road Transport highlighted the need for stricter adherence to safety standards in the bus manufacturing process.
