For the first time, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) admitted more students than their sanctioned capacity, with 18,188 seats allocated against 18,160 sanctioned for 2025, driven by efforts to minimize vacancies. This year also saw a slight increase in women representation to 20.15% and plans for further expansion with an additional 6,500 seats announced in the 2025 Union Budget.
