The Supreme Court, led by CJI B R Gavai, rejected a two-judge bench’s directive for the President to seek SC opinion on the constitutional validity of Tamil Nadu bills, arguing it undermined the President’s authority and the separation of powers. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta emphasized that such actions could complicate legal processes and that the decision to seek SC advice rests solely with the President.
