China’s military warned Taiwan against escalating separatism, threatening to tighten its grip on the island and urging proponents to retreat to avoid a “dead end,” as tensions rise over the territory’s status. The army spokesman, Wu Qian, emphasized China’s commitment to countering separatism and promoting reunification, cautioning against pursuing a path that leads to conflict. These statements were made during China’s “Two Sessions” political gathering, where Beijing announced a 7.2 percent increase in defense spending for 2025 amid ongoing military modernization efforts.
