Sweden will contribute up to three warships and an ASC 890 surveillance aircraft to a NATO effort in the Baltic Sea to guard against sabotage of underwater infrastructure. The country’s coast guard will also provide four ships to monitor the region, with seven more vessels on standby. This decision comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has raised concerns about potential Russian activities in the Baltic, particularly targeting undersea cables and pipelines that connect Nordic, Baltic, and central European countries.
